Mississippi tops 2,756 new coronavirus cases and 40 deaths. The new cases are reported in the following counties: Harrison County (130), Jackson County (54), Hancock County (52), Pearl River County (45), Stone County (29), and George County (5).
Between Dec. 7 and Dec. 30, new deaths occurred in the following: Jackson County (2), Harrison County (1), Hancock County (1), and Pearl River County (1). The deaths in Harrison and Pearl River counties were both residents of long-term care facilities.
Hospitalizations
As of Dec. 29, there were 1387 people hospitalized in Mississippi with confirmed infections. Of those, 321 were in the ICU and 208 were on ventilators. The majority of people who get COVID-19 will not require hospitalization, say health officials.
Probable cases are those who test positive by other testing methods such as antibody or antigen, and have recent symptoms consistent with COVID-19, indicating a recent infection.
Probable deaths are those individuals with a designation of COVID-19 as a cause of death on the death certificate, but where no confirmatory testing was performed.
